Idea to Market in 5 Months: Making the Glif »
On July 11th, 2010, Tom Gerhardt and I had an idea for an iPhone accessory: a tripod mount that doubled as a stand. Five months later, customers began to receive our product, the Glif, in the mail. This turnaround, from idea to market in five months by two guys with no retail or manufacturing…
Absolutely loving the partnership between two of my favourite online entities: The Oatmeal and tumblr!
The latest instalment of the famous Feltron report.
Nicholas Feltron published his 2010 Feltron Annual Report. Great stuff and visualizations in there, just ordered a copy.
Good heritage. (via chitwoodandhobbs)
Fun new Nike Cooperstown Heritage shirts. Very much remind me of twoeightnine’s Nashty tee.
Easily the coolest high five ever! (via highfucking5). See also the High Five Cam (via @makeyourgfhappy).
There are exercise bikes, and then there are exercise bikes. This, is the latter. (via Uncrate). “The Ciclotte features a complex dual satellite epicycloid transmission, a carbon-and-alcantara adjustable saddle, a touch-screen display, a slender, unicycle-style frame, and unique carbon handlebars. Getting in shape never looked so good”.
Indeed.
Wow. How many times does this kid stack it - hard - before he lands it? He just does not give up. Way to go get it! Awesome.

Bikes vs. Cars: “This one runs on fat and saves you money. This one runs on money and makes you fat”.
SeaSwarm is an oil cleaning robot army, developed by MIT. It’s a fleet of autonomous, solar-powered robots which communicate with each other via Wi-Fi and GPS to collectively clean surface oil from a spill.
Each robot has a flexible conveyer belt made of a thin nanowire mesh which does the oil collection, by rolling softly over the ocean’s surface. The magic happens in the nanofabric (developed at MIT), which absorbs up to 20 times its weight in hydrophobic liquids, like oil (without picking up any water). Processing the material involves heating it to extract the oil, and then the nano fabric can be used over and over. This is done locally to avoid repeated trips back to shore, which would significantly slow collection time.
SeaSwarm estimates that a team of 5,000 of these robots operating continuously would be able to clean up an area the size of the Deepwater Horizon Gulf oil spill.
This is some awesome innovation!
Turn any bike into an electric with MIT’s Copenhagen Wheel - winner of the Dyson Award (via fredericguarino). There is so much innovation happening in the bike space! Bixi and SoBi are two other, notable examples.
Marion Cotillard epitomizes classic beauty, and Annie Liebovitz is an incredible portrait photographer. What a combination. Check out the making of the “Lady Rouge” Dior photoshoot. Beautiful.
Simon Sinek TEDx Talk: How great leaders inspire action. “Simon Sinek has a simple but powerful model for inspirational leadership all starting with a golden circle and the question “Why?” His examples include Apple, Martin Luther King, and the Wright brothers — and as a counterpoint Tivo, which (until a recent court victory that tripled its stock price) appeared to be struggling.”
Thanks, Dave!
